Learning to walk: A big step on the developmental scale

A walker for stretches across living spaces

"One, two, three, four, five, ...." - the first little steps when babies learn to walk, you proudly count as a parent. Mom and dad sit across from each other and the little treasure trips from one to the other with a broad smile. After a while, you can no longer keep up with the counting. However, it takes a bit of practice before the little ones are able to walk longer distances all by themselves. The best way to do this is with a baby walker.

From cute furry friends that can be pushed around the house, to the high or low baby walker that can later be used to store cuddly toys, books, etc., to the baby walker with building blocks, we have a wide selection for you!

Proud as an Oskar: Moving around and transporting toys with the baby walker

Small children would like to do sooo many things themselves! It is especially practical when the baby walker kills two birds with one stone: On the one hand, your child can move around with it and if there is then also enough space in it that your little one can transport his cuddly toy, favorite doll, wooden blocks, wooden bricks, etc. in it, all the better! You will see: Your little rascal will be proud as an oskar to be able to push his toy himself to where he would like to have it. Or to go exploring with his teddy.

The first vehicle for the little ones

Sit on it and race off: on slides from Indigo Jamm, Plan Toys and Little Bird Told Me, among others, your little one can race through the room on four wheels. With this, the little racers sit safely and can also let themselves roll sometimes, if they have enough momentum. The colorful sliders are modeled after stylish scooters or cars and are suitable for children from 12 months. For animal lovers, there are of course also variants in the shape of lions, cows & Co.
The manufacturer Teddykompaniet has come up with something clever for all the kids who like to go for a ride, but also like to take a break on the swing: The slide animals have four wheels that can be folded up if desired. This makes it easy to turn the slide into a rocking animal. And if you press the left ear, you can even hear a melody!

Train the sense of balance with the running wheel

A running bike is suitable for children who can already walk safely on their own - which is the case on average between one and a half and two years. With a running bike, both concentration, motor skills and the sense of balance of your offspring are trained. As a "beginner rider" it is not that easy to keep the wheel straight or to avoid obstacles. But once your child gets the hang of it, you'll hardly be able to stop them!
By the way, with a running bike, the little ones can whiz through the area both indoors and outdoors. This is practical for walks: you can safely leave the stroller or buggy at home! Ideally, when your offspring rider is busy making turns on the running bike, they won't want to be carried home by mom or dad either, preferring to get there themselves.

An important tip:

If you let your child ride the running bike outside, a bicycle helmet is absolutely necessary!

Another advantage of running wheels: Most children with running wheel experience find the transition to their first bike much easier than children who have not ridden a running wheel. Many do not even need training wheels, because their sense of balance is already sufficiently trained by the running bike.

The running reflex

In the first few weeks after they see the light of day, babies automatically make running movements with their legs as soon as you lift them up under your arms. However, this so-called walking reflex wears off again after about two months. The baby's legs are simply too weak to walk properly.

Steps to walking

Bones, tendons and muscles are only gradually strengthened, for example when your child starts to turn and later supports himself on his hands and raises his head. As soon as your child can sit and crawl, it won't be long before he or she is pulling themselves up everywhere they can and starting to stand at the couch, table, etc. - sometimes very briefly without help. When dad or mom hold the little bundle of joy by the hands, he will happily hop around on their laps. Then it won't be long before the first independent steps are taken. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, .... 26 .... 135 .... uff - at some point you'll stop counting!
